Coonawarra is undeniably the national cabernet capital. However, there are some great wine makers doing very good things. We are expecting some brandy from Majella, a Pedro Jimenez from Wynns that is most excellent and now we see Parker in the market big time with a wild ferment, barrel matured Chardonnay.

Parker have been making wine in the region for 30 years and their strict viticulture and winemaking standards have resulted in a finely structured wine, with natural acidity, elegance, flavour and a fresh, clean finish.
Sure, there is some lovely oak but it feels modern and contemporary. It is a great example of a cool climate chardonnay made well with an amazing balance of oak, fruit and all that finish! The nose is both lively and aromatic with notes of summer stone fruits, and hints of brioche and toasted cashews. An elegant and structured palate showing bright stone fruits with hints of lemon blossom and apple follows. A touch of minerality, balanced acidity and a lovely creamy texture flowing through to a balanced finish. That minerality is a result of the terra rossa where iron content makes itself very known.
We love this with a fatty plate of something like pork belly, richer seafoods and fatty fish or anything toasty or pastry based. I love it with an old school Cornish pastie where the white pepper and pastry is complimented by this Chardonnay.
