This 2021 Tarrawarra Estate Barbera is the kind of wine that sidles up to you at a dinner party, whispers something naughty and then proceeds to charm the pants off everyone in the room. It's not here to be subtle or coy. Rather it's bold, brash, and unapologetically delicious.
On the nose, you'll find a riot of ripe raspberries and blueberries, with a hint of liquorice to add a touch of mystery. Its generous and fruity but very grown up. In the glass, you are greeted with a juicy, fruit forward palate dancing between sweet cherries and tart raspberries, all held together by a zesty acidity to keeps things lively. The tannins are smooth, like a well-rehearsed jazz solo, as in just enough to keep you engaged without overshadowing the melody.
At 14% ABV, it's got a bit of a swagger, but it never tips into the realm of "whoa, slow down there, mate." It's the kind of wine that pairs well with a hearty meal or a lively conversation, and at around $35 a bottle, it won't break the bank.
