I thought we were done with the natural wines. They had their time in the sun. they came, they saw and then they went a little quieter. This scribe was and is a mad fan of anything that challenges the norm but started to wonder if funk was for funk's sake.
But then I found this from CRFT in the Barossa Valley. Certified organic, small batch and awfully clever, these are the love children of Candice Helbig and Frewin Ries. And they are lovely children.
We drank the wild ferment Mencia Rose. And, well... WOW. Gorgeously blush in colour, there is a gentle nose of strawberry, rosewater and grass - not the smoking kind but the fresh stuff in your front yard. The palate jumps up and is both lively and restrained. Packed with notes of raspberry and quince, and a smacking plum like umami...its deliciously refreshing and has a lovely bright acidity.

Served chilled, this is a ripping late summer tipple and is well worth hunting this down.
