From the team who gave Perth both Ezra Pound and The Bird, comes North Bird. It joins the growing trend of wine stores doubling as eating houses, bars and all manner of places to scoff turps and tucker.

The focus here, which we love, is small batch, hard to find and natural wines. They stock the likes of Latta Vino, Koerner alongside some smaller wineries producing interesting varietals and orange style wines. It is a wine lovers heaven, and there is some food that is as simple as it is delicious.

It's a dark, somewhat cavernous space but very lively. Serving small shared plates, mostly mediterranean, we had a load of choice and, the menu is well suited to drinking wine, which we assume is the idea. The menu changes frequently and is based on the availability of produce, but expect items like kingfish crudo with jalapeno, some orange & fennel vinegar and buckwheat, or a spinach fettuccine loaded with broccoli, rocket, chili, parmesan butter and walnuts.

The kitchen is under the charge of Frankie Dawson (formerly of Bivouac), who has some great experience in London and whose influence in this menu covers modern Spanish and Italian share style and nibbling plates.

North Bird is sure to become another success for the team.

It can be found at 175 William Street, Northbridge WA 6003

Open Tues- Sat from 4.30pm - late
