Parramatta is going off. Always the 'inland city' as a sister to Sydney, its growth means it is fast becoming a haven for foodies. From great sandwiches to new restaurants, Parramatta is the gift that keeps on giving.

The Lobbyist is a very chic cafe, from Ibby Moubadder and the team from Nour and Henrietta's in Surry Hills. This growing group seem to be adding something new every week - with LillyMu and Cuckoo Callay in Surry Hills and sister venue Cuckoo Callay in Newtown.

The Lobbyist is in Parramatta Square. It's a far cry from ordinary mugs of cappuccino and toasted sandwiches found in many a precinct lobby, and like all of their venues, there is a commitment to quality - in the food, the service and the fit out, courtesy of Sydney design studio Grant. Industrial meets minimalist with sleek lines and soaring 10m ceilings.

Moubadder says “When you walk into The Lobbyist you feel as though you could be in London or New York and that is exactly what we were looking to achieve.”

Under the watchful eye of cheeky expat Brit chef Ollie Hughes, the menu melds classic breakfast and brunch dishes with a pan Asian influence. Like a mushroom and egg roll served with capsicum relish, sriracha mayo and spinach, or the same offering with bacon, or smashed avocado with za'atar and olives, served on sourdough with basil pesto, smoked labneh, pickled green tomato, mint and fennel.

For lunch there are bowls, such as the coconut and lemongrass poached chicken, basil pesto, avocado, fennel, rocket and lemon on focaccia bread, alongside an array of sandwiches and burek, with rotating specials Specialty coffee is from Reformatory Caffeine Lab, tea is by Tea Craft and there is a great selection of fresh juices and smoothies.

For those who want to linger over something a little less teetotalling, there is a range of wine, cocktails and beer.

The Lobbyist is at 153 Macquarie St. Parramatta.

Open Mon - Fri 7.30-3.00pm.
