Simha 'Nature' Sauvignon Blanc

First to push the elephant out of the way. Sauvignon Blanc is the problematic fave of the wine world. This Scoffer has long passed by it on every occasion as too grassy and you’re drinking herbaceous regret, and too fruity and it turns into a tropical juice cleanse gone rogue.
But every once in a while, a bottle comes along that walks the tightrope between vegetal and vivacious with all the poise of a French acrobat who microdoses acid. Rarer than rocking horse poo, Domain Simha Sauvignon Blanc from Louise Radman and Nav Singh is a Tasmanian temptress, slinking into your glass wearing a lime peel bikini and a smug expression.
The nose is generous with crushed nettles, lemon, sweet pea and wet rocks and there is gooseberry of course, because this is Sauvignon Blanc. But there is incredible restraint with a monastic like coolness saying yes, I’m expressive, because it is what I should be. The nose isn’t shouting at you like a Marlborough bro at a wine-tasting speed date, more whispering from behind an heirloom fennel bush.
The palate is utterly electric. Razorwire acidity cuts clean through a soft, round citrus midsection showing grapefruit, finger lime, maybe a stray green apple who dropped out of culinary school and found purpose. There’s a flicker of saline on the finish that makes you want oysters or crispy hot chips.
It is both complex yet very cool - so cool it might start judging your playlist. Radman and Singh have always had a knack for walking the biodynamic line between cosmic woo and actual winemaking chops and this Sauvignon is no exception. It’s not trying to be serious Sauvignon Blanc; it just is, which is frankly more intimidating and yet oh so joyful.
Pair it with raw scallops, someone who will appreciate it and the cold realisation is that this just might be the best Sauv Blanc you’ll drink before your next life crisis. For a non Savvy drinker, Im just a little hooked but good luck getting hold of it.
